Police: Jersey City man slashed prostitute at Secaucus hotel after disagreement
A Jersey City man is accused of stashing a prostitute he met at a Secaucus hotel Sunday evening after a disagreement about payment.
Police say 26-year-old Vineeth Ravuri met the woman at the Aloft Hotel “with the purpose of engaging in sexual activity in exchange for money.”
Police say that when Ravuri was asked to leave the hotel room, he brandished a knife and demanded his money back. They say a struggle ensued and the woman was sliced on her finger and buttocks.
Ravuri allegedly tried to prevent the woman from leaving the room, but she was able to escape and called for help. She was treated for her injuries at the scene.
Police say Ravuri was found in the hotel lobby with blood on his jacket and foot. He also allegedly had the bloody knife on him.
“Prostitution is not a victimless crime. Prostitutes are frequently victims themselves of physical and sexual assaults and robbery. Due to the sheer number of hotel rooms, Secaucus is appealing to those engaged in this illicit activity,” Secaucus Chief Dennis Miller said in a statement. “However, the SPD will continue to conduct proactive operations in hopes of suppressing prostitution, which is often the root of other heinous crimes.”
Ravuri faces numerous changes, including armed robbery and aggravated assault. He is being held at the Hudson County jail.
