Commuters are on alert this morning in Nassau County after a young man was attacked and had his car stolen at the Inwood train station.  

According to police, the incident happened around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday.  

According to detectives, a male victim, 21, parked his red 2015 Honda in the Inwood train station parking lot located at 28 Redfern Avenue. The man was approached by six unknown males wearing dark clothing and black bandanas covering their faces.

“Terrible," said Raphael Cohen, Far Rockaway. "I thought this was a safe neighborhood.”

Police say one of the males displayed a knife and demanded the victim’s car keys.  The victim complied and the six males entered the vehicle and fled northbound on Doughty Avenue. 

Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said this is not an isolated incident. He added the car used by the assailants was recovered in Newark.

"Everything we have going on where our cars are being stolen is going back to Newark," he said. "We got a bunch of thugs coming out from Newark and stealing and really hitting our communities hard.” 

All subjects are described as male black.
