A man was fatally shot in the stomach early Tuesday in Mount Eden, police say.
Officers tell News 12 they responded around 4:30 a.m. near Walton Avenue after receiving reports of an unconscious man.
When they got there, EMS was already at the scene treating the victim.
Elvys Familia, 38, was then taken to Bronx Care Health System where he was pronounced dead.
The incident took place down the block from where Familia lived.
The crime scene markers extend down East 172nd Street and up Walton Avenue, marking what appears to be blood.
Walton Avenue was still completely blocked off as of 5 p.m.
Neighbors like Justin Paneto say they were surprised it happened so close to home.
“…Usually this is a peaceful neighborhood,” Paneto says. “Everybody knows each other and nothing crazy happens here.”
Police tell News 12 that no arrests have been made and the investigation is still ongoing.
