Police say a mother was killed and her 11-year-old daughter was seriously injured in a crash in Wyandanch Friday afternoon.
Officers say 30-year-old Jennifer Figueroa was turning onto Lincoln Avenue from Little East Neck Road when her car was hit by a BMW.
Witnesses say the 30-year-old mother and her 11-year-old daughter were trapped in the car. First responders used heavy equipment to free them.
Police say the 11-year-old girl, Anahi Sanchez, was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center for serious injuries.
Figueroa was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.
Dayelin Cifuentes saw the tragic accident unfold on her front lawn.
“Gives me like such rage to think about how someone’s actions can bring about these consequences, costing her life and possibly her daughter,” said Cifuentes.
Police arrested the driver of the BMW — 18-year-old Franklyn Charles, of West Babylon. Charles is charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
There was a 14-year-old male passenger in Charles’ car who was released to the custody of family members.
