Police: Queens man arrested in Valley Stream burglary and assault

Police say a Queens man was arrested for a Friday afternoon burglary and assault in Valley Stream.

Detectives say it happened around 2:20 p.m.

They say Paul James, of Springfield Gardens, entered the home of his girlfriend through an unlocked window as she slept.

Police say there was a verbal altercation before James grabbed his girlfriend by the neck and hit her multiple times.

The victim sustained abrasions and swelling to her face.

Officials say James fled the scene and was arrested following an investigation.

He faces multiple charges including burglary, assault and strangulation.
