Police are searching for a driver accused of hitting a woman and fleeing the scene early Tuesday morning in the Parkchester section of the Bronx.
The hit-and-run happened just after 2 a.m. on Archer Street, according to police. A 62-year-old woman was struck by what investigators describe as a dark-colored Cadillac Escalade and left lying in the roadway.
Exclusive surveillance video from a nearby laundromat shows a dark SUV and several people in the area around the time of the crash. Another camera appears to show the same vehicle driving away moments later.
Neighbors say the incident has left the community shaken.
“It’s just terrible. It’s too much crime. People are evil,” said Esther, who lives nearby. “It’s sad — it could be somebody’s grandmother, somebody’s mother."
The woman was taken to Jacobi Hospital and is expected to recover.
Another neighbor, Candis Hendy, said the driver needs to be caught before someone else is hurt.
“They really need to find him because he’s going to kill somebody else,” she said.
Investigators say they are still working to determine whether the woman was crossing the street or standing when she was hit.
Police are asking anyone with information about the driver or vehicle to contact authorities.
