Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck a child in Williamsbridge.

Police say it happened around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of East Gun Hill Road and Paulding Avenue.

The child who was hit was a 5-year-old girl. She is being treated for a leg injury at a local hospital.

A witness says the driver was turning onto Paulding Avenue from East Gun Hill road when she hit the child.

"She hit two kids, but one of them got severe so it was a bystander that was helping the child and the lady kind of stopped for a minute and when she saw the distraction went up to the child, she took off and went up Paulding she just took off and left," said witness Baba Oseni.

Police say the driver was in a Blue Honda. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
