A man has been charged in connection to the death of a 4-year-old boy.
Right now, police say the boyfriend of the child’s mother, 27-year-old Jerimiah Johnson is being evaluated at Lutheran hospital.  According to police, he is currently charged with murder.
A woman called police on Sunday, Sept. 12 and told them her child - who police have identified as 4-year-old Jayce Eubanks - was not breathing. Investigators say officers responded to her apartment at the Gowanus Houses and tried to give him CPR, and rushed him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
While at the scene, police say neighbors approached them and told them to check the boy for injuries and that he was being assaulted. The medical examiner has now ruled his death as a homicide, saying the cause of death appears to be battered child syndrome and that he suffered recent blunt trauma to his torso.
News 12 has learned that the victim’s 6-year-old brother also lived with them but didn’t appear to have any injuries.
Johnson is now facing charges of murder and acting in a manner injurious to a child. According to the NYPD, he has a prior arrest for violating an order of protection against a woman.
