The lack of transparency from the school district outraged many parents, including some who decided to keep their kids home today.

"We have no answers and until we do, we're just going to band together as parents and make sure our kids are safe by any means necessary," Mount Elementary School parent Bill Hito said.

Others also criticized the amount of information the district has presented, but said they were willing to trust the processes in place were going to keep their kids safe.

"We just have to trust the system and if the email or the authorities say that the kids are safe, then we'll take their word for it," Mount Elementary School parent Christine Lai said.

Suffolk County police beefed up patrols at the school today. Several officers were seen driving around the campus and checking doors to the building.

Police said the department is investigating and working with the school district to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Despite the threat, school did start on time today.
