A 33-year-old special education teacher at MS 391 was setting up his classroom for the first day of school when a bullet came through the window and struck him in the hand.

He was in the classroom with a paraprofessional at the time who was not injured.

Police are canvassing rooftops in the neighborhood as they say the bullet may have come from an elevated area. If anyone has information, they are asked to call police.

The DOE released the following statement:

"This egregious display of violence is both upsetting and reprehensible. NYPD immediately responded to the scene where one educator sustained non-life-threatening injuries. We will provide support additional support to this school community.”

The NYPD and say there will be an abundance of school safety agents on campus tomorrow to ensure the safety of students, teachers and staff.
