Despite rules to enforce social distancing, videos are emerging of crowded trains full of straphangers.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced police officers will begin to enforce social distancing on subways this week after faced with complaints of dangerous crowding. Some service has been reduced as part of the MTA’s Essential Services Plan which officials say is necessary because of reduced ridership and an increase in sick workers.

The mayor says authorities will be pulling people off the trains if they continue to see overcrowding. For now, trains are running essential service.
The MTA recently announced five employees have died from COVID-19 complications and over 300 employees have tested positive.
