The River Plaza Shopping Center reported a shoplifter around 7 p.m., authorities say.
Authorities say the suspect fled once the police arrived, leading to a car chase. The two officers were trying to reach the alleged shoplifter when all three were struck by a Honda Civic traveling westbound in the left lane on West 225th Street.
The two officers sustained leg injuries and are currently in stable condition at St. Barnabas Hospital.
The suspect was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he remains in critical condition due to body trauma and internal injuries.
Police say Bronx resident Manny Tate, 45, has been arrested and charged with robbery, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, two counts of assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, petit larceny, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
The 53-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was issued a summons for failure to use due care, resulting in the collision.
