Police say a woman was assaulted in the middle of the afternoon near some of the borough's most popular summer locations.
Even with all the traffic in the area, police say a man assaulted a woman at 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of City Island and Shore roads.
Police tell News 12 that the victim, a 31-year-old woman, was going for a walk June 23 when the suspect allegedly ran up to her from behind, covered her nose and mouth, and then dragged her into the woods.
Police say the victim was able to scream loud enough that another man who was biking nearby heard her and went to see what was going on, causing the suspect to run away.
The suspect is described as about 5 feet, 5 inches tall with a thin build and a "well-groomed" appearance.
News 12 was told he was wearing white surgical gloves, a gray fitted T-shirt, cargo pants and sneakers.
The victim was treated at the scene for scrapes and bruises.
Police ask anybody with any information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls are kept confidential.
