One woman was found dead and one man was found with a slash wound to the throat in a Tremont apartment building Thursday morning.
Police are investigating the situation as an attempted murder-suicide.
Officers arrived at the apartment at Arthur Avenue and E. 180th Street around 7 a.m. after reports of an assault. They found a 24-year-old woman unresponsive with a slash wound to her throat inside of a bedroom.
A 27-year-old man, who also had a slash wound to the throat, was also found inside of the location, police say. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition and is currently in police custody with charges pending.
The nature of the relationship between the man in custody and the victim is unclear at this time, and nobody else was in the apartment when police arrived.
A box cutter was recovered on scene, police say. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
