Officers say they responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress in front of a public school on East 152nd Street.
When they arrived, police found a 25-year-old woman, unconscious and unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency Medical Services responded to the location and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
No arrests have been made and an investigation remains ongoing.
The victim has been identified as Priscilla Vasquez.
Police have put up signs around the scene urging residents to call with any information. Residents can leave an anonymous tip and receive up to $2,500.
