Police say a woman was fatally struck by a car in East New York on Wednesday night.

They say a woman was lying in the road when she was struck by the vehicle on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Sources tell News 12 that vehicle may have been an unmarked police car. They also say the woman is believed to be homeless.

According to investigators, there were three passengers in the vehicle, all taken to the hospital but in stable condition.

The woman was taken to the hospital, but later died.

News 12 spoke with someone who wanted to remain anonymous, but claims to have witnessed the aftermath of the incident.

"They were trying to give her CPR. They go back to her, pressing her chest and she's just lying there not moving. It was a sad moment to see," he said.

The incident happened just steps away from a school. News 12 observed speed limit photo enforced signs in the area, but people like Daniel Okon say the road is known for speeding and reckless drivers, especially at night when school is out.

"Life is not worth taking due to recklessness from motor vehicles. Aside from the fact that it's a residential area, there's a school which is supposed to make the cautions be higher," said Okon.

News 12 also spoke with someone who wanted to remain anonymous but works at the school.

"If you're here long enough, you'll see cars speeding quite often," she said.

Police say no arrests have been made as of Thursday night.
