A 31-year-old Bronx woman is listed in stable condition at St. Barnabas Hospital Wednesday after police say her husband stabbed her multiple times a day earlier.
According to police, 47-year-old Diomedes Valenzuela stabbed his wife in their Bedford Park home before fleeing to New Jersey with their 3-year-old daughter. Police had issued an Amber Alert for Rebecca Valenzuela, 3, but lifted it hours later when New Jersey state troopers found and arrested Valenzuela.
New Jersey State Police say troopers from the Bloomfield station spotted the pair driving on the Garden State Parkway in Clifton, New Jersey, and pulled over the car. They say Valenzuela is now cooperating with detectives.
Valenzuela is a former Irvington Township, New Jersey police officer, according to the town's pension page and other government records. He retired due to health reasons.
Valenzuela will likely appear before a New Jersey judge Thursday morning.
Rebecca is unharmed and in police care.
