A 70-year-old woman is recovering after police say she was struck by a stray bullet while riding the bus in Bed-Stuy Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators say this happened around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Tompkins Avenue and Fulton Street.

Police say the driver of a B25 bus was stuck in traffic when someone started shooting outside the bus.

Surveillance cameras caught the incident.

The bus driver is seen pulling over. Moments later, a police car pulls up to the scene and officers rush onto the bus.

An ambulance is seen arriving and a few minutes later, first responders are seen carrying who police say is the 70-year-old victim off on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

Police say she was rushed to the hospital where is being treated for a gunshot wound to the cheek. They say she is in stable condition.

As officers from the Crime Stoppers unit hung fliers through the area, Councilmember Robert Cornegy called on the community to step up its efforts as well.

"We know who these young people are. There not parachuted in from another community. You have to stand up, make the reports that are necessary," Cornegy says.

Police say they are searching for at least two suspects, one who was wearing an orange and gray bubble jacket, blue hoodie and all dressed in black. Both suspects appear to be teenagers.
