Polls for primary election day reopen Tuesday
Following months of lead up, Tuesday is primary election day for races around the city.
Polls closed Monday after nine days and nearly 192,000 ballots cast during early voting. It's all leading up to the big day on Tuesday when polls will reopen from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The mayor's race is getting most of the attention headlines, but there are plenty other big ones on the ballot like public advocate, comptroller, borough president and city council.
Getting just as much coverage as who we're voting for is how we're voting. This is the first city-wide election to use ranked choice voting. In ranked choice voting, votes get calculated to see if any candidate has more than 50% of first place votes. If nobody hits the 50% or higher, the vote goes to the candidate who got the least and instead take the second choice from those ballots.
