Power & Politics: Back-to-school in NYC – breaking down the new challenges
There's a lot of excitement surrounding this new year of classes in the city's public schools – a new reading curriculum for many students, new mental health resources, the teachers have a brand new contract – but also some concerns, from school safety to facing the challenges of enrolling thousands of children of asylum seekers that have arrived in the city.
Kurt Semder spoke about the new challenges with Council Member Rita Joseph, the chair of the Education Committee and representative of District 40 in Brooklyn.
They also spoke about school safety and whether it’s a good idea to lock the front doors during school hours.
Semder also spoke with NYC Schools Chancellor David Banks about many topics concerning the 2023-2024 academic year.
