Dozens of residents gathered in East Flatbush Tuesday to honor the life of Justin Hackley, six years after his death.
Hackley, in college at the time, was fatally shot at a smoke shop and deli on Ocean Avenue on July 11, 2017.
"At any given moment anybody can be shot in the streets of New York City and it’s tiring,” said Marie Bernard, Hackley’s mother. “I’m so tired of saying rest in peace. I’m so tired of saying gun violence."
According to police, Rasheed and Dean Boland were the two brothers responsible for his death.
In 2019, Rasheed Boland was arrested in Texas and charged with murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The Brooklyn DA’s office confirmed in March that Rasheed Boland was found unfit and was committed to a mental health facility.
The NYPD says it is still on the hunt for Dean Boland, but the family says they won't stop until he's found.
Hackley’s family is asking anyone who has any information on Dean Boland’s whereabouts to please call crime stoppers.
