President Joe Biden is set to meet with Mayor Eric Adams Thursday on a strategy to combat gun violence as shootings continue throughout the city.
The NYPD reports a total of 73 shootings and 82 victims so far this year. The numbers are similar to last year at this time.
The stats come as the city is still reeling from the fatal shooting of two police officers in Harlem. Then on Monday, a teen was shot at a mall in Brooklyn.
The NYPD says last week there was a total of seven shooting victims in Brooklyn.
Mayor Eric Adams unveiled a blueprint to end gun violence in the city. The road map calls for both intervention and prevention. Adams says more officers will be stationed in key neighborhoods throughout the city.
Adams says his administration will enhance existing public safety units with neighborhood safety teams.
Some say the gun violence problem needs to be treated like a public heatlh problem.
"The vaccine for this needs to be a lot more mentorship, boots on the ground, a lot more funding, we need to have mental health resources in places that are impacted by gun violence," says Eric Waterman, of East Flatbush Village.
