President Donald Trump's announcement Wednesday that he would ban transgender people from serving in the armed forces spurred condemnations around the country -- including from local LGBT groups.
Many members of Destination Tomorrow, a nonprofit that provides services to LGBT people in Hunts Point, say the president's tweets on the issue disheartened them.
Trump argued that covering medical costs for transgender people would be a burden.
"To be in the military means you are willing to die and fight for your country," one man told News 12, asking to remain anonymous. He says he is an openly gay, non-gender-conforming male -- and a veteran.
