The neighborhood of Wakefield held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday on a new complex for affordable housing for seniors.
The complex will be on White Plains Road at the site of the Wakefield Grace United Methodist Church. Along with the complex will be a new church for residents.
The project has been in the works since 2018 and will provide over 70 affordable apartments for seniors. The new church will further expand social services offered to seniors and others in the community.
"It is really showing how church can impact the community again and can be relevant for the community and take care of the needs of the community,” said Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church reverend Ximena Diaz-Varas.
This project is slated to be done sometime in 2024.
