Hip-hop isn’t just taking center stage in the Bronx tonight — Brooklyn hosted its own celebration Friday night.
The 50th anniversary of the influential genre was a cause for some music and fun at BRIC’s Hip-Hop 50th Anniversary Weekend at Prospect Park.
Hundreds turned out for music from Digable Planets, Kari Faux and more, as part of a weekend filled with performances, games, talks and a showing of the movie “Brown Sugar.”
It’s been a week of partying and looking back in honor of the 50 years of hip-hop in its birthplace, New York City.
“Hip-hop is culture, I am hip hop,” says Sarissa Phillips. “Growing up in the music industry, it feels good, we’re here, we’re celebrating everyone coming together for the love of hip-hop.”
