Students at P.S. 41 who contacted local elected officials about their school's bathrooms being in disrepair returned to classes to see that their request led to action.
The city provided $400,000 in funding to make necessary repairs on nine bathrooms after several students wrote letters calling for changes.
Previously, students couldn't properly flush toilets, leaving an unpleasant smell in hallways. Soap dispensers were also not functional and students were unable to use paper towels.
P.S. 41 Principal Erika Tobia was pleased to see the call for a fix equal results.
"All of our students came back after they had written letters and they got to see ‘Hey, my voice matters, a local politician is responsive to what I'm doing, and I can make a difference,'" says Tobia.
