P.S. 83 students had a hands-on lesson in environmental preservation Thursday as part of the Greener New York Initiative.
With the help of Councilman James Vacca and a $39,000 grant, the students will revitalize a garden outside their school.
But before the work started, they got a chance to pick out pumpkins to carve ahead of Halloween.
The initiative seeks to promote green space through education. The garden project won't begin until spring.
