Thousands of Puerto Ricans were left in the dark after a massive island-wide blackout on Wednesday.

News 12 spoke to Puerto Rico residents Jarrell and Jose Alexander, who say these blackouts are their new normal.

"I think a lot of people here are numb to the outages," said Jose Alexander.

The couple are one of the 1.4 million people impacted.

More than 850,000 customers, or 58%, had power back by Thursday afternoon, while 89% of customers had water restored, according to the Associated Press.

The governor of Puerto Rico says may take at least three days to have preliminary information on what might have caused the blackout.
