There were continued calls for justice for George Floyd and for Breonna Taylor, as well as for reform in the New York City Police Department. But Friday's demonstrations also saw a celebration of culture and unity.
Trumpets rang out and drums hit to the beat of the march as demonstrators walked and biked out of Cadman Plaza and across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Police officers were seen lining the streets so protesters could get through safely.
On Friday morning, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that Juneteenth would be a recognized city holiday starting next year.
