The New York Rangers were without coach David Quinn and his entire staff against Philadelphia because of NHL COVID protocol -- but they put on a show anyway.
The Rangers dominated the Flyers 9-0, with all of the team's goals coming in the first two periods. They had seven scores in the second period alone.
The team says Quinn and assistants Jacques Martin, David Oliver and Greg Brown were unavailable due to the protocols.
Kris Knoblauch, who coaches the Rangers’ top minor league affiliate, the American Hockey League’s Hartford WolfPack, served as acting coach. Hartford assistant Gord Murphy and associate general manager Chris Drury were also be behind the bench. Knoblauch and Murphy are former Flyers assistants.
The Rangers had defenseman Adam Fox and forward Pavel Buchnevich back after each player spent time on the league’s COVID protocol list. Buchnevich scored twice on the night.
