Raritan Township Committee Member Louis Reiner has resigned as the town’s deputy mayor following criticism for an anti-Islamic post he made on Facebook.
The committee also voted to censure Reiner for what it called “derogatory, discriminatory and offensive public statements.”
Kane In Your Corner reported on Reiner’s post in its “Hate at Home” series last week – looking into bias incidents around New Jersey.
The meme Reiner posted showed a nuclear mushroom cloud along with the caption, “Some cancers must be treated with radiation. Islam is one of them.”
Reiner will remain on the township committee. His term expires at the end of 2020.
