Red Hook Houses mural displays community's resilience

A massive new mural at the Red Hook Houses will make you think and take out your phone to see parts of the art in augmented reality.
Red Hook youth were recruited to help create some of the art featured on the mural. They, along with residents, brainstormed what the mural should feature. Many painted loved ones into the piece.
Snapchat provided some of the funding and trained youth on how to use augmented reality, which is how filters are made, to animate portions of the piece on the app.

"This [mural] is something the community needs to realize we're not dead. We're still here, we're still thriving, we're still resilient, we're still doing what we got to do. We're here to kick butt," said Nahisha Mccoy, the vice president of the Red Hook West Resident Association.
The Public Housing Community Fund spearheaded the project along with Artolution and Woven Arts.
