The Empire State Building will shine its tower lights in red, white and blue to honor the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday, Sept. 25.

On Friday, Ginsburg will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol, becoming the first woman in history to have such an honor.

Appointed Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court in 1993, she was the second woman to sit on the bench of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ginsburg will be honored and remembered for flourishing in the face of adversity, and successfully fighting for women’s rights and against gender discrimination.

Ginsburg will be buried beside her husband, Martin, in a private ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery next week. Martin Ginsburg died in 2010. She is survived by a son and a daughter, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
