Several relief organizations joined Mayor de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray to visit Coney Island Hospital to thank medical workers and other essential employees who are risking their lives to save lives.
A long round of applause was held Thursday for those on the front lines of the pandemic. The mayor says the Health and Hospitals system has been one of the hardest hit during this pandemic.
The mayor and first lady were joined by the Red Cross, Aramark and the Robin Hood Foundation to deliver hundreds of packages of food and personal care products for the hospital workers.
They say the money came from a private $20 million donation to buy essentials for workers who are busy helping others.
News 12 has seen many in the area express their gratitude to the workers at the hospital over the last few weeks. Local fire departments have done drive-bys and New Yorkers around the city peek out nightly at 7 p.m. with a round of applause.
