Following last week's News 12 exclusive report that former Gov. Andrew Cuomo is running for New York City mayor, News 12 has confirmed that Rep. Richie Torres is putting his support behind Cuomo.
Last week, multiple sources told News 12's senior political reporter Tara Rosenblum that Andrew Cuomo has made the decision to run for New York City mayor following many months of speculation.
Cuomo served as the 56th governor of New York from 2011 until his resignation in 2021 following several sexual harassment allegations, which he adamantly denies and have not resulted in any charges.
In addition to Rep. Torres, sources tell News 12 Cuomo has already earned several crucial endorsements for mayor, including former state Comptroller H. Carl McCall and will make an official announcement via video in the next few weeks.
The development comes as current Mayor Eric Adams battles low approval ratings and a federal indictment.
