A new report shows that child abuse occurs in 60 percent of families affected by domestic violence in the Bronx and the city.
The study released by Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum says that teenagers, foster families and same-sex partners as well as traditional families all are affected by domestic violence. The report is a road map for reform with recommendations to police, courts and public agencies. Gotbaum says more family court judges and attorneys that specialize in domestic violence are needed, which she says will mean more funding.
Gotbaum says it will take a community effort to stop the violence. And while crime in the city is down, the same is not the case with reports of domestic violence.
