Republican and former NY Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey announces run for CT governor

Republican and former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey announced Wednesday that she is running for governor in Connecticut.

She made the news during the Stamford Republican Town Committee meeting.

McCaughey served as lieutenant governor from 1995 to 1998 under then-Gov. George Pataki.

She was born in Pittsburgh and grew up in Milford and Westport.

McCaughey says she is planning to file paperwork Thursday.

In her campaign announcement, McCaughey says she will lower electric rates and cut taxes.

Outside of politics, she is a news anchor and syndicated columnist. McCaughey is also the founder and chairman of Reduce Infection Deaths, a national campaign to stop hospital infections that is headquartered in Connecticut.
