Resident doctors holding demonstrations citywide to demand more pay

Resident doctors at some city-owned hospitals are demanding more pay. Some took part in a demonstration outside of New York City Health + Hospitals/Kings County on Wednesday to voice their demands.
The resident doctors at Kings County say they have not received a raise since 2020 and are tired of waiting.
"I'm here to fight for our right as doctors. We, as residents, we are paid minimum wage,” said Salma Sadaf, an M.D. resident at Kings County. “We work 80 hours a week and are paid around $15 an hour. It is not fair."
NYC Health + Hospitals is currently in negotiations with the union that represents the resident doctors over a new contract. While those in the demonstration are not on strike and still working, they are applying pressure on the city.

In response to the ongoing “Week of Action” from the doctors, a spokesperson for NYC Health + Hospitals wrote that the group is grateful for the residents and that their “goal is to strengthen our partnership and reach an agreement that is fair to CIR, NYC Health + Hospitals, and our city’s taxpayers.”
Residents at eight other hospitals in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx are taking part in demonstrations all week long.
