Hundreds of Brooklyn residents waited in the heat for food and supplies Wednesday at what will be an ongoing giveaway event.
News 12 is told people began lining up along Pitkin Avenue around 8 a.m. showing how much of a need there is.
All of it was organized by World of Giving, which works all over the tri-state area to provide families with much needed food and supplies, much of it taken from companies who would have otherwise disposed of it.
They partnered with Doral to get the supplies to families in Brownsville. The chief of Brooklyn North along with officers from the 73rd Precinct also stopped by to introduce themselves and help out. The goal is to spread love and give back
"I'm looking at smiles on people’s faces; people have come with our children, the children are happy and this is what it's all about it's all about, service, and all about giving back," says Chief Judith Harrison, of the NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn North.
They say they plan to make this a weekly event, so every Wednesday they will be out on Pitkin Avenue starting at 10:30 a.m.
