Neighbors are protesting a proposed homeless shelter in the Bronx across the street from another shelter where a woman was murdered -- allegedly by someone who had lived there.
The victim, Ana Charle, was the shelter's director. A former resident of the shelter was arrested in connection with her death.
But the Department of Homeless Services says it plans to install 200 beds in the new shelter. In a bid to ease tensions, the city has promised around-the-clock policing and security.
Residents say they already can't go to the local gas station without being panhandled and they fear for their safety.
