Some Bronx residents are learning how to protect themselves in the event of a personal attack.
Amid the increase in slashings in New York City, people are turning to the Krav Maga combat system to protect themselves.
Krav Maga teaches people basic self-defense techniques as well as realistic training scenarios, like taking a knife or gun away from an attacker.
The system comes from Israel and is commonly taught to the country's armed forces.
Students say getting over the initial shock factor of being confronted by an attacker can help build confidence and waste less time, which can allow for a faster escape from an assailant.
