Increased funding from the City Council means Bronx residents can make use of borough libraries six days a week, including Saturdays.
Patrons at the City Island Branch of the New York Public Library said they are glad to have an extra day to catch up on reading or meet friends.
?The library system is the best system in New York,? City Island resident Helen Friedman said. Many echoed that sentiment and pushed for the library to open its doors an extra day by signing a petition.
Councilman Jimmy Vacca (D-Bronx) said their efforts were part of the reason City Council set aside more than $42 million so all libraries could be open that extra day.
Many residents said they used to have to travel off the island to find another library open on Saturdays.
