Firefighters and other responders rescued a construction worker trapped in a trench Thursday in North Riverdale.
FDNY firefighters worked for two hours to rescue the worker. The worker was finally freed as a result of efforts by 20 FDNY units, a special ops unit and Con Edison.
Deputy Chief Michael Brown says the worker was repairing a waste pipe by himself inside of a trench when it collapsed underneath him. He then became trapped from the knee down, pinning him inside a nearly 10-foot hole.
The team had to suck some of the soil out of the ground so that medics could get into the trench to treat him. They say the worker was conscious during the entire rescue and was transported to Jacobi Health Center in critical but stable condition.
No other information has been released at this time.
