Some of the G train service is suspended starting today and through July 5, worrying some restaurant owners about a decline in foot traffic.

Service is suspended between Nassau Avenue and Court Square today until July 5. Partial suspension of service will continue between various stops until early September, according to the MTA.

MTA officials say that not only is the shutdown necessary, as the department is modernizing signal systems along the line, but they also selected the most ideal time to do it - in the summer when ridership and foot traffic is low.

That's exactly why the shutdown should have been stopped, says Citroën owner and operator Dawn Eldridge.

"It definitely is a slow season, so we try to conserve during the year so we can get through the slow time, but with the G train not running, I don't know how many people are going to survive this,” said Eldridge.

Eldridge says when train service is suspended on weekends she sees a 70% decline in businesses.
