A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today for a shelter for homeless mothers and expecting mothers.
After more than 20 years in East Norwalk, The Malta House is moving across town to make room for more families in need.
The Malta House in Norwalk is more than just a shelter, they provide comprehensive wrap-around support for homeless mothers.
The nonprofit has been helping new moms and expecting moms for more than two decades.
After touring dozens of spots, Executive Director Carey Dougherty says Malta chose to move to the former convent on the campus of All Saints Catholic School in the city of Norwalk.
"We love how the school is across way. Just a healthy, wholesome environment," Dougherty says.
Dougherty says the new space has 15 bedrooms, including three family suites.
She says renovations at the new site were made possible thanks to millions of dollars in donations from the community.
The Malta House families will transition to the new location at the end of the month.
