(03/19/07) THE BRONX ? The Rice boys basketball team shocked Christ the King 44-41 to capture the CHSA AA title.
The contest gave new meaning to the word ?close game.? Both sides duked it out for the first three quarters, resulting in a slim 34-33 lead for Christ the King. Dorvelle Carter was able to fire right back, draining a baseline jumper to tie the game at 41 in the fourth.
After a defensive stop and a timeout, Rice took possession of the ball with a chance to win the game. Kemba Walker moved between two defenders and threw up a prayer, which was answered in the form of a three-pointer. The basket sealed the deal, giving Rice a 44-41 victory and the state AA Catholic League title.
