A popular Bergen County restaurant will require patrons to show proof of having the COVID-19 vaccine to dine inside.
The owner of It’s Greek to Me in Ridgewood says that he polled his regular customers before making the decision and says that all of them supported it. He says the decision was for the safety of the restaurant’s staff and patrons.
Those who cannot show proof of vaccination – including children under 12 who are not eligible to get the vaccine – will have to sit outside to eat.
“I think it’s favorable for a business protecting itself, employees and diners,” says Greg Stepanian, of Franklin Lakes.
Stepanian and his wife Anita are new parents and carry their vaccination cards with them.
“Our perspective has changed since we had the little one, so we are definitely game for anything that protects our children,” says Anita Stepanian.

The owner of It’s Greek to Me says that the rising cases of the delta variant was part of the reason for the new rule. He says that it will protect his most vulnerable customers, especially senior citizens.
Those who are unvaccinated are still welcome to dine in the restaurant’s outdoor areas.
But not everyone is happy with the new rule. Posts made on social media say it is discriminatory. The owner tells News 12 that he has even received threats because of the rule.
New Jersey does not currently have a vaccine mandate for indoor dining. Gov. Phil Murphy has left it up to individual businesses. In nearby New York City, proof of a COVID-19 vaccine will be required for most indoor activities.
The new rules at It’s Greek to Me took effect on Tuesday night.
