Rikers Island authorities are investigating an escape attempt after initiating a lockdown Friday morning.
Officials say at 4:15 a.m. Friday, an individual in custody escaped through the window of the Eric M. Taylor Center. They add the person did not leave the perimeter of Rikers Island.
A Department of Corrections spokesperson released a statement on the incident saying, “We take all attempts to escape, even when unsuccessful, very seriously. The individual was re-apprehended at approx. 8:50am at another location on the island and this incident is under investigation.”
No other information has been released at this time.
