There's a staple in the heart of Harlem that has served and displayed a diversity of art for over 50 years - El Museo del Barrio.
The museum highlights the perspective of Caribbean and Latin American cultures. Curator Susanne Temkin tells News 12 it was born at a time when it was needed most.
"El Museo was really born out of the community. So, we were born in this civil rights movement- a time where there were a lot of calls for change," says Temkin. She adds the goal is to inspire other artists and create an inviting environment for the community to learn more about their culture.
The museum also offers educational programs. Temkin says they're excited for New Yorkers to come on in and experience the richness of our culture, one exhibition at a time.
