Halloween is just around the corner, and the New York Botanical Garden is ready for the season.
News 12’s Shakti Denis got to visit their hundreds of pumpkins on display.
Throughout the fall, the garden hosts various events for the public.
“Every weekend we'll have tastings, we'll teach you the plant science behind pumpkin spice, we'll give you an opportunity to take all the different flavors of fall,” said Joanna Groarke, NYBG’s VP for exhibitions and programming.
Halloween-related activities are their specialty.
“We have so many fun things going on through the month of October, focusing on pumpkins and scarecrows and all the spooky and mysterious things that happen in nature at the garden,” said Everett Children’s Adventure Garden director Pattie Hulse.
Visitors are encouraged to wear costumes for the season.
“On Oct. 22 and 29, we have spooky nights. Families can come to the garden a little later in the afternoon and spend time here as it's starting to get dark. It’s always a lot of fun,” said Groarke.
In addition to pumpkin carving workshops and competitions, they also display some of the largest pumpkins in the world during the last two weeks of October.
“They're usually around 2,000 pounds. They're super cool, and it's really nice to see kids and adults alike marveling over the wonders of nature,” she said.
